Habitent is a compact, easy to erect, adjustable cockpit enclosure designed to fit a wide range of sailing boats without the need of permanent fixings to enhance your yachting outdoor living enjoyment; giving shelter from the sun, wind and rain and providing a versatile low cost option to cumbersome traditional sailing boat cockpit canopies and boom tents.
A range of readymade solutions suitable for most boats with a stern of 1.0m to 2.4m
“Hi there
Just to let you know that we’re really pleased to have been in Elaine’s office at the right time to trial the Habitent at Easter but very sorry to have mucked up your weekend, WE were lovely and dry (ouch!). We’ve just ordered ours and can’t wait for it to arrive. We also ‘borrowed’ your sample once more this weekend (just to make sure of the fit, of course). The weather was atrocious – high winds and heavy rain. We woke up in the morning anxious that the Habitent would be ‘Habitatters’, or that it may not even be there at all… It was all intact and we had breakfast in the cockpit on dry seats and sheltered from the wind, looking out over the lake. Brilliant!
Great for ‘soirees’ (we had 9 in there by the way, but if it’s a competition we can improve on that). The fairy lights are an added bonus!
Best of Luck

“It was great to finally meet the creators of the Habitent at the Southampton Boat Show.
I just wanted to say a big thank you for creating such a brilliant product. It absolutely made our Brittany cruise this year; transforming chilly nights into candle lit suppers in the cockpit; almost doubling our living space and even better making quite a lot of other boats very jealous as they cowered back into the cabin as the rain started. It even kept the gentlemen amused for hours debating the best way to ‘fine tune’ the already very fast set-up and removal process
Congratulations on an excellent and lightweight addition to our cruising kit.

“Habitent arrived in Edinburgh on schedule and was delivered to Denmark.
So after 2 very stiff gins and studying your video, 2 engineers were able to achieve a passable approximation to a cockpit tent – hopefully it will still be there in the morning, as more heavy rain is forecast!
So you can add a Dehler 34 (1992) to your list of compatible boats

“HI, I attach 3 pictures taken last week-end at Portavadie on Loch Fyne on a windy and wet day. It was the first time we had put it up with really no issues, we have altered the stern strap so as not to cause an obstruction across the back and that has worked well. Thanks for sending the tent so quickly, we are very pleased with the product. Jim”

“Our Habitent arrived safely yesterday and was immediately put to use with yet more rain forecast! We think it's going to be very useful on our travels. It's attracted a fair bit of interest in Port Solent today.
Thank you again for your help, we would certainly recommend you to fellow mariners.

“Hi Christine, I have been meaning to send you an e-mail on how my Habitent. The Habitent has withstood winds up to 45 knots and steady wind in the 15 to 25 knot range so far this winter. As of today it still looks new and I have had no problem with it. Very pleased with it. David Blount. USA”

“The weather was perfect and we found the Habitent fairly easy to erect. We stayed out in the cockpit until almost dark that night, protected from the breeze nicely. It was great to note so many additional design features you’ve added that make it a very good product. We had an LED light hung up inside and it felt very warm and cosy, and it also gave us much more privacy over the weekend. Perfect

“Had a ‘Habitent’ enclosure for the first time last week on Ullswater, on our Seawych ‘Rosie’. Fitted well and we were really happy with it and surprised at the high quality of the tent and fittings. If anyone has any questions feel free to e mail, kevinbriggs@tiscali.co.uk”

“Habitent on a Gibsea 282 in France since 2012, through sun, wind and rain. Garry says ‘my wife has said several times that the Habitent was the best thing we had bought for our trip and now I am forced to agree’. We crossed the channel in early May and up went the Habitent while we went into the canal system. We covered approx. 1600 km and the habitent was not removed until we laid up the boat in September. This year we put up the habitent again on arrival on May 25th and it will stay up again until we leave mid Sept. We are currently tied to a Jetty at Chatillon -Coligny experiencing one of the most severe storms we have ever been in. Torrential rain with 40+ knots. We were not expecting it and the habitat was not secured properly to the boat. Even so, we stayed dry and comfy. Garry Crew”

“Just installed habitent on my Colvic sailer 26, I am delighted it fits like it was made for her and has given us so much extra room and shelter for the winter. We’re so chuffed to have our cockpit back”

“We have had, as you may know, the best summer in Brittany for about nine years, with wall to wall sunshine and dry conditions since about the beginning of July, but with some nice breezes for a change.
The Habitent has been a blessing in keeping us cool in the evenings, with a nice airflow with the flaps up. Better than a bimini every time!
In the not so good weather in Brittany (April – mid-June) we had it up for about six weeks with nor-easters blowing mostly at F4 to F6. On one occasion, we had an intense storm with F9/10 gusts and ‘greles’ – hailstones – peppering us like shot. Habitent withstood all without a problem. One visitor with a well-known bimini-style cockpit cover had it shredded. It was made of a pvc-type cloth and took the metal polework with it.
I rest my case!
All the best at So’ton

So, there we go. Three seasons on and no complaints

“Following the purchase of a Habitent at the Penryn boat Jumble, I have to say that it has been our most rewarding purchase since buying our Moody 30. The fit is superb and during the season it has transformed our time on the boat. Even when the weather has been bad we can make use of the cockpit as a living area, and temperatures on board are 3-4 degrees higher when the Habitent is in use. At anchor, or on a swinging mooring, we have used it in up to Force 6 winds with no problems”
David, Habitent M
“Just LOVE our Habitent.
It has meant constant fresh air during all those winter showers rather than being cooped up inside with the companionway locked down. It also means no more getting drenched when the gas runs out halfway through cooking dinner. One of the Best Buys Ever – cannot understand why we didn’t buy one years ago! Would recommend it to anyone

“The unit is amazingly compatible with the Cape Dory. It’s as if Carl Alberg anticipated the invention of the Habitent NS when he designed the Cape Dory 30C thirty odd years ago. I am very impressed with the unit and its design. I had it in place for a few days in the Marina and it made a huge difference to living on board”

“The Habitent is good enough for a Norwegian summer, but will not keep you warm during a Norwegian off-season. (i don’t think a “real” cockpit tent will do either…) Setting up the tent right needs a little trial and error, but after a while we have learned how to do it right. There are always some wrinkles left, but it keeps the rain out, and that is the important part. The Habitent is easy to stove away while not using it, and that is much appreciated by us.

“We have fitted a Habitent onto our British Hunter Mystery 35, pictures can be seen on the customer gallery and are taken in the UK and in the Canaries. We would not be without it! Regards Caroline & Robert. Mystery Owners Club”

“The tent fitted my Southerly 42 centre cockpit like a glove. I am extremely pleased and I have suggested to two friends with the same boat to buy one! I will send you photos”

“I have been using my Habitent for one season in the North of Norway and I have no complaints or comments on how to improve the product. We have an old Gibsea 31 and it is amazing how well it fits our fairly wide cockpit. Christian in Norway”

“Couldn't get to Jersey boat show, too much weather, so we asked our Jersey friends to look at Habitent and approve (or not) the quality. If OK, to buy one for us. They liked it so much they bought one for themselves, and brought ours to Guernsey for us to collect from store Sark. We've used ours this Liberation weekend and we're unreservedly delighted with it. Sark friends, here for the celebrations, liked it and are ordering theirs. A good result!”

“Just had 10 days in Guernsey with Heelaway and Habitent, what a great piece of kit ! Not only acted as dry cover but sun shade and wind protector from the strong SEastrrlies.
I cannot praise the Habitent enough

“Thanks for getting the Habitent over to me so quickly……. Put it up as a test last night – very impressed. The biggest challenge is getting it back into what appears to be an unfeasible small bag! When I get a bit better at setting it up I’ll take some photos and send them to you for your website – don’t think you have a Bavaria 34 there yet.
Really pleased with the product and my wife is thrilled by the extra space it will give us on damp days ( not that we get many of those in Ireland!!!!)

“I absolutely LOVE my new Habitent bought in October! It has changed my life, giving me a whole new room in my small sailboat. I live aboard so this is a considerable advantage, especially during the Spring and Autumn, in between weather when I can eat and entertain in it”

“Happy with my sirocco fits my Crabber 24 very well. Stood up to this weekend's downpours perfectly ”
