Instructions for Habitent Sirocco

Prior to installing the Habitent for the first time on your boat you need to adjust the width of the unit to fit the stern of your boat, measure your stern at either the stern coaming or extreme stern. Adjust the fixed webbing strap inside the unit to give the measurement required. ‘Reef’ in the surplus fabric on the stern panel using the brass eyelets at the base of the rear panel and secure with the loop and ball bungees to give a good fit.

Installation Instructions

The versatile Sirocco is designed to fit on two different styles of boats, those with a side deck and those without.

No side deck.

You may need to attach permanent fixings to the side of the hull.

The skirt of the Sirocco is designed to sit outside of the hull. Eyelets are fitted so that with the aid of shock cord, the skirt can be secured to the outside of the hull. Do not overtighten the skirt as this will distort the roofline.

Do not insert the foot of the pole through the lower white pole pockets, as the foot of the pole will rest on the cockpit benches.

With side deck.

The skirt and stern pole set of the Sirocco are designed to sit on the deck. Run the frame through the internal roof pocket and into the pole pockets.

Installing the Habitent Sirocco

Lift the boom to its highest point and secure it off to the side of the boat; it is not normally used as part of the installation. Remove the Habitent from its protective storage bag.

Attach the bow end first – Unroll and lay the Habitent over the spray hood or hull just behind the companionway (bow side).

Secure the 4 fixed webbing straps at the bow edge of the Habitent and the two deckline webbing straps by either;

a) Fixing the webbing straps to any obvious fixing points e.g. shrouds/ Jib cars/ cleats/stanchion poles /grab rails/ toe rails. Tension the lower side edge of the unit by securing the fixed webbing straps, located to the front of the unit at deck line, to the Jib cars or the like.

b) OR securely install the Habitent BLACK 24mm x 5000mm webbing strap (with the reflective detail) across the boat utilising any 2 obvious fixing points, then create a loop across the boat between the 2 fixing points and secure the bow edge of the unit as above.

If you wish to use the ROOF auxiliary pole, insert it in the bow internal roof pocket. Unclip the halyard and attach it to the roof pockets external centre loops and hoist to a suitable height.  Attach the 19mm x 5000mm GREY webbing straps to the outside loops of the roof pocket and take them forward to the shrouds. This enables you to further tension the roof line.

Attaching the stren panel.

  • Install the stern pole system into the internal roof pocket.
  • IF there is a side deck, place the foot of the poles into the pocket.
  • IF no side deck leave the foot of the pole free to rest on the cockpit benches.
  • Lengthen the poles to suit, Lock and tension ensuring that the roof pole remains central to the unit. Unfurl the Habitent towards the stern.
  • Place the feet of the poles outside of the combing or within the cockpit (according to the design of your boat). Lean the poles/ rear entry to avoid the back stays. Use the 19mm black webbing/straps to secure the Habitent. Tighten as required, do not overtighten.
  • Use any of the additional 19mm webbing and straps to increase the secure fixing of the Habitent to stanchions / guard rails or other suitable fixing point. Loops are available on the external centre of the roof to adjust the pitch of the roof if necessary.
  • Complete the installation by tensioning all of the internal and external webbing straps to give a satisfactory fit. Tensioning the black gusset webbing straps to the inside of the unit will improve the fit and reduce excess bagging at the front of the unit.
  • To achieve the ‘best fit’ ensure the roofline is taut.
  • See the video at www.habitent.com for visual explanations

Dismantle the Habitent

Reverse the installation instructions. Note: The Ripstop material is water resistant; however if the unit is wet when dismantled we recommend that the unit is dried at the earliest opportunity. Instructions for folding the Habitent can be found on the Instruction page at www.habitent.com
